Have you ever noticed that you are happy that you got hold of 1,000 pesos which you may have earned from whatever livelihood you are in. And then, after a mere 30 minutes, especially if you are in the mall with the children, you are left holding mere coins?
Wages are at a standstill, but prices of essential items have skyrocketed to unexplainable levels wherein almost everything leaves you with an empty wallet or pocket.
These days, from a material point of view, you cannot be happy if you are holding 5,000 or even 10,000 pesos cash because you know, bills and things which you need to pay in order to have a regular way of life are already at the corner ready to pounce on you. Well, this amounts of cash are considerable if you are a single (unattached), frugal human being not attached to material things. But then, if all these criteria are present, you are referring to 0.01% of the population.
Rule of thumb nowadays in this era of cash scarcity: Learn to enjoy the cheaper way of life of maybe 50 years ago or more wherein there are not much choices to buy and there are NO MALLS!
Take a walk. You do not have to go far. You can stride along the streets of your local neighborhood, especially if there are parks around the area and it is not so polluted.
Get into simple sports without much equipment. Again walking…and then running. Very cheap. Also swimming. At first, swim trunks and goggles might be expensive, but then that’s about it and your fee for the swimming pool.
There are also simple sports like table tennis, tennis, badminton, mostly racquet sports are not that expensive. You will be surprised at the amount of sweat that will be purged out of you. All those toxins!
Talk. With your spouse, your children, your friends. Nothing freer than that. Well, in a nice environment like an airconditioned coffee shop, or a nice restaurant which serves sub-zero temp light beer, there’s a little expense involved, but then the conversation and the jokes will make you relax.
Almost always take your meals at home. Question: Do you know how much is the profit margin of restaurants: 100 to 200 % You can see how much you save if you eat at home.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. You too can think of many ways wherein you can spend less or none at all in these difficult times.
