Improve the image of the Filipino, genuinely

Filipinos are some of the most lovable people on earth. They smile all the time despite bad times. Well, bad times and good times, they still smile and can still crack jokes.

And they are most hospitable to foreigners. They will accommodate visitors on the street if they are needed for directions and their English is some of the most fluent on earth! Their English grammar is even more accurate at times than native English speakers.

Filipinos are also very industrious, especially when they are working beyond their shores. The mere thought that they have to leave their families behind to earn bucks which they cannot earn back home gives them the incentive to work really hard, even overtime, so they can remit a large chunk of their earnings back home.

These are the Filipinos with the unknown faces. There are Filipinos who are known internationally. The most famous now is world boxing champion Manny Pacquaio. Actually, he has improved the image of Filipinos internationally. What with all the news recently of Filipino drug mules being caught in various parts of the world. A drug mule is a phrase used for a person who is used as a courier of illegal drugs by illegal drug syndicates. Filipinos who do this usually do so because of extreme poverty and lack of opportunities for decent jobs.

Pacquaio has done a good job of uplifting the image of the Filipino. He has become unbeatable as a fighter. And his mellow demeanor has captured the hearts of people of all races, despite his fame and riches. He is very humble and down to earth and he has hobbies and does activities which common people relate to. Singing, spending a lot of time with his family, giving value to true friends who have been with him through thick and thin.

There are other up and coming Filipino celebrities and athletes who are trying to make a mark in the world scene. We world observers are just requesting these people to, ok, yes, make your mark, do your thing, reap success, fortune and fame. But please behave and be role models for other people to make this world a better place to live in.

Most of all, improve the image of the Filipino. The Filipino can be as great as anybody else…if not, greater.
